No trains between Cambridge and Ely: major disruption expected until 16:00

A collision at a level crossing between Waterbeach and Ely means that all lines between these stations are closed. As a result, no trains will run between Cambridge North and Ely. Therefore, there will be no direct service between Cambridge and Ely.

Services will be revised to terminate and start at different stations.

Please note, Greater Anglia services are still able to run between London Liverpool Street and Cambridge North, if you're travelling between Cambridge and Cambridge North, you can still continue your journey.

Major disruption is expected until approximately 16:00.

Advice for CrossCountry customers:

CrossCountry services may be delayed by up to 60 minutes whilst revisions take place.

Replacement road transport has been requested to run between Cambridge and Ely. You may use these services at no additional cost once they have arrived on site.

All road transport will be fully accessible. If you are a disabled customer requiring further assistance for your disrupted journey, please speak to railway station staff or use the customer help points if the station is unstaffed.

Your ticket can be used at no extra cost on the following services and routes:

If your CrossCountry train is cancelled, then you can use your ticket on the two CrossCountry services operating before and the two CrossCountry services after your cancelled service

If you decide to travel from a different station due to this disruption and need to return to that station later, you will also be able to use your existing ticket to do this at no extra cost.

To travel between the London area and the Ely area, please use trains via Peterborough.

Using an alternative route is likely to take at least 60 minutes longer than usual.

To provide a service between Cambridge North, Waterbeach and Ely, replacement buses have been requested, but these are still en route.

This means we do not currently have an estimate for the journey time between these two stations.

If you are making an urgent journey, please speak to staff, or use the station Help Point if you are travelling from Waterbeach, and staff will aim to assist you with alternative road transport.

You will also be able to use your ticket to travel between Cambridge and Hitchin, between Hitchin and Peterborough, and then between Peterborough and Ely, but this is a significant diversion compared to your normal route.

Due to a train colliding with a vehicle at a crossing between Waterbeach and Ely, services will be disrupted.

Greater Anglia tickets will be accepted on Great Northern, East Midlands Railway and CrossCountry trains, when the line reopens.

Rail replacement buses are being sourced to run between Cambridge North and Ely.

Advance purchase tickets holders will be allowed to travel on earlier or later trains if their booked service is cancelled.

Another train operator's service has been reported to have struck a vehicle at a level crossing near Waterbeach.

At the moment, local staff, the emergency services and colleagues at Network Rail are to dealing with the immediate incident, which will then be investigated.
